Tomlinson to perform in charity concert at The Opera House
On May 18, 2010, the Opera House will hold one of its biggest events as it hosts a fundraising concert for the Delta Children's Home featuring country music superstars Tracy Lawrence and, Kennett's own, Trent Tomlinson.

Tomlinson, who was in town on Friday, April 16, planning for the event, said he has always wanted to come back to Kennett and do something for the community.

"I've always wanted to come back and do something for the community," Tomlinson said. "God has blessed me with being able to make records and go out and do what I do, and, being a native of this community, I've always wanted to something in high fashion. The Delta Children's Home, they do wonders for kids who are less fortunate.

"To me, it was kind of the only option. I was toying with the idea of maybe doing a music scholarship. The Delta Children's Home, they have a hard time struggling just to fund that place and keep up the lifestyle that they are trying to provide for these kids. For that, we owe them, as a community, to [help them]. I just think it is a great charity.

"My buddy Tracy Lawrence, we have been friends for years and I have played his charities numerous times and I called him and said, 'Would you be willing to do that?' He said, 'Absolutely.' That is how this thing came about. We are real excited to come back to Kennett. I am excited to come back to my hometown and play a show, but, more importantly, it is about the kids and what [the Delta Children's Home does] for these kids. It should be a big night for us."

Tomlinson said he and Lawrence will be on the stage at the same time, and he has "some special guests."

"I'm not revealing that yet, but trust me, it is going to be just as big as me and Tracy," Tomlinson said. "We will all be on stage in a row and just trading songs, [going] back and forth, and laughing, and having a good time."

Tomlinson said Lawrence has always been one of his idols and he looks forward to the show.

"Tracy Lawrence is my idol and he always has been," Tomlinson said. "I went and seen him at the Peach Fair at [Campbell, Mo.] when I was a sophomore in high school. Now to be standing on the stage with one of my idols and playing a stage in my hometown, it has just kind of come full circle for me. I'm excited to do it."

The event, which will be held at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, will be limited to 450 tickets -- 300 seated and 150 standing room only. Tickets are currently available at www.deltachildrenshome.com, at a price of $60 for seats and $40 for standing room only. Doors will open at 6 p.m. All proceeds from the event will go to the Delta Children's Home.

The use of the Opera House was donated by the Crafton family, and all sound equipment and electronics have been donated by Ken Williams.
